Antiquity warden
Хранитель древности
The film tells about Mukhtar Baysangurov, a restorer of medieval monuments of architecture from Ossetia Alania. A colourful highlander, as if descended from old photographs, Mukhtar impresses not only with his charisma, but also with reverent attitude to his work. At an altitude of some 2000 meters above sea level, where severe Caucasian winds blow, far from civilization, without electricity and hot water, Mukhtar carefully and painstakingly restores the historical appearance of towers and fortresses. As an experienced foreman and highly qualified specialist, he enjoys unquestionable authority within the restoration team he has been working with for many years. Mukhtar's three adult sons have also followed in their father's footsteps and o0en work hand in hand with him. It is a real pleasure to observe the restorers' way of life: hard working day after day, being immersed into centuries—old history, which they literally touch with their hands; listening to amusing stories by the campfire while cooking meals for the whole company. For these people restoration of monuments has long become not just a profession, but true sense of their life.
